Education doesn’t just change a life; it lifts a whole family out of poverty. It increases life expectancy and civic responsibility. While education is deemed to be the ‘the great equalizer’ in society, digital literacy (the skills required to live in a society where information is accessible through various digital technologies) is still non-existent in majority of India’s population. Just building schools in rural areas isn’t enough. We, at IJF, aim to enable students with resources that would allow them to continue their education and get access to better opportunities.

Today’s education is incomplete without digital or computer literacy. According to a survey by the NSO, only 4% of the population in rural areas have access to digital devices compared to 42% of students in urban households. While 17.9% of the rural population are aged 15-24, only 24% of them are able to operate a computer compared to the 56% of their urban counterparts. Our work involves providing technical education, skill development courses and awareness as well as enabling the co-existing resources and essential knowledge to use them effectively. Helping students stay up-to-date to receive quality education is a challenge that we are trying to overcome. Not only does it enable them to access information but it also equips them to apply for higher education and gain the prerequisite skills for future career opportunities.
